Fiberglass, stainless and plastics need to be kept clean and protected to prevent the elements from damaging the surface or gel coat.  While harsh abrasives may be needed if surfaces are left unprotected, routine light polishing with appropriate products can reduce the buildup of oxidation and not reduce the life and beauty of the surface.
